Analysis of Influencing Factors on the Knowledge and Perception of High School Students in Belgrade About Epidemics Vladimir M. Cvetković Criminalistic-Police Academy, Belgrade Aleksandar Ivanov Faculty of Security, Skopje Abstract The aim of this quantitative research is to determine the level and influencing factors on the perception and actual knowledge of high school students in the territory of the City of Belgrade regarding epidemics as a natural disaster. The study employs a survey method to identify and describe the factors that influence students’ knowledge and perception of epidemics. From the total population of high school students in Belgrade (65,561 students), a sample of 3,548 students was drawn for research purposes, representing 5.4% of the population. Out of 101 high schools in Belgrade, 13 were randomly selected. The research results show that students’ knowledge about epidemics is statistically significantly influenced (p < 0.05) by: gender, age, father’s and mother’s education level, and academic success; their perception is influenced by: gender, father’s and mother’s education level, academic success, parents’ employment status, and school education; and their knowledge of safety response procedures is influenced by: age, father’s and mother’s education level, and school education. The study covers the City of Belgrade, so its conclusions can be generalized only to the population of high school students in this geographical area. Given the evident lack of education on natural disasters in Serbia, the research results can be utilized in the creation of educational program strategies, contributing to the improvement of youth safety culture and, consequently, their overall security.
